Kai's Journey By Wendy Siefken and Charles Siefken

                     Overview

"Kai's Journey" is a story about a young man, set ten years in the future. An archetypal story about the clash between generations, the novel’s protagonist, Kai,
has spent most of his youth trying to right the wrongs of his father. His father was a military scientist charged with the task of perfecting a formula that would create a
superior breed of soldiers. Kai's father accidentally created a race of zombies. Like a virus, it soon spreads to the entire world, unleashing a period of unsurpassed
chaos and conflict.
In the midst of this turmoil, Kai comes across a young woman named Clover, who is part of a clan traveling across the United States to try to find what is left of humanity. Clover is a part of a clan of werewolves, unlike any werewolves that have previously appeared in pop culture or literature.
Along the way Kai and Clover come across stragglers who join with the group as they journey across the upper part of what used to be known as North America.
One night while Kai and Clover were watching a meteor shower they meet a group totally out of this world. Kai and Clover begin a heroic journey, fueled by the increasingly dim hope that somehow, the human race will have a chance to start over.

Today we have with us Wendy Siefken One of the authors of Kai's Journey here's a few questions we asked her.

Tell us a little about bit about your book?

The follows Kai ten years in the future after a zombie apocolypse that was started by his father in a scientific experiment gone wrong. He meets a young woman named Clover, who is a part of a clan of werewolves. Werewolves that aren't the normal Hollywood type of werewolves. They journey from New York to Montana up across Canada. Along the way they meet a new visitor to earth, Dragons. Together they try to find a way to rid the world of the zombies and start a whole new world.

What led you to write this book?

This book is a project that my youngest son, Charles, started back in 2009. He was playing a video game and thought, "I could write a story about this." From there he pulled in elements of life, movies and books that he had read. I helped him to type it up and flesh out the story. Charles was the creativity and I was the one who helped get it published and marketing.

How do you manage your writing day? Do you write full time?

Our writing day varies from day to day. Right now, we write full time because I am not working outside the home and Charlie just recently graduated from high school. We write, market, blog, and recruit new and indie writers to interview to help drive traffic to our website. It helps authors get the word out about their book and helps us get the word out about our book. A win/win situation.
Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

We decided to go the indie route because we had queried and queried many agents who all were very nice but politely said no. I found out later from an agent I became friends with that since we were unknowns and had elements of zombies, dragons and werewolves. When we were shown an article in a local paper about Amanda Hocking we decided to look into the indie route and see what it all entailed. To our wonderful surprise it was a way for us to get our book out there and not cost us $1,200. or up like a vanity press would charge. We have had to research and learn everything we could about marketing and getting the word out about our book. We are still learning. But it really is a fun journey that we have taken on and are enjoying it while we can.
